As we age, our bodies start to change, and usually this is not for the better. Along with maintaining a healthy diet, exercising and working out are two top choices when it comes to maintaining –or getting- your body in shape.
However, not all exercises are created equal, and some of them can be very dangerous once you reach the age of 40. This is because the body naturally starts changing and so do its activity and dietary needs. Simply put, the exercises you used to do in your 20s or 30s aren’t the best options when you reach the age of 40.
Some of these exercises were once thought to help you lose belly fat, but for people over 40, they may not work so well. At this age, you’re between a time when your body allowed you to do anything and quickly regenerate, and a time where you are limited to a few actions.

1. Extreme Cardio
OK, we’re not insane — cardio is a staple of any exercise plan and incorporating some form of it is important if you want to lose belly fat and improve health. However, too much cardio over the age of 40 can increase levels of cortisol, which is the stress hormone in the body.
What’s more, prolonged cardio could reduce lean muscle mass, increase the risk of injuries due to tears in muscle fiber, increase the production of free radicals and cause inflammation. So, instead of long-distance running, think about swimming.
